Terms & conditions

CONFIRMING YOUR ORDER

All our tables are made to order which means that we can be as flexible as possible in making sure we have your preferred materials and can adjust the sizing to fit your space exactly. When you commit to purchasing a table through our website, we will be in touch within 2 working hours to confirm all of these details with you, including lead times.

PAYMENT & PRICES

When you purchase a table, we take 100% payment which always includes delivery and VAT and, in some cases, customisation. Once we have been in touch to confirm the details of your order, we give you a grace period of seven days in which if you change your mind, you will receive a full refund. After this time there will be a cancellation fee, depending on how many costs we have incurred (materials and labour).

LEAD TIMES

Lead times will vary throughout the year as all our pieces are made to order. For coffee and dining tables this will usually be from 4 - 8 weeks from confirmation of order. For pieces that are price on request, or larger (three metres or more) this may take longer and also depends on the lead times of our timber suppliers. When you purchase a table, it’s best to let us know if you have a specific date you’d like to have your piece by and we’ll do our best to accommodate. If any of these lead times are different, then we’ll contact you with an update.

DELIVERY

Delivery and installation will be made by at least one member of our team, and for larger (heavier!) orders, can be up to four. We will communicate with you to arrange this after your purchase as we will need to know measurements and dimensions of your living space and any doorways we’ll need to navigate! Please make sure you give us all the information we need correctly as if we are unable to deliver due to misinformation, this will incur an additional delivery cost. All our delivery charges are already built into the cost of your table, so there are no hidden surprises.

PALETTE DELIVERY

A few of our products may fit on a palette and so can be shipped to you. Once we confirm a time and date with you, please make sure there are two people there to receive the delivery.

INSTALLATION

If you need to cancel or reschedule an installation booking, please let us know in writing at at least seven days prior to the booking date. We will be as flexible as possible, but if you cancel within seven days, this may incur a charge to cover expenses already incurred.

It is your responsibility to ensure that the furniture purchased will fit into and through your home. We cannot be held liable for any damage caused to walls, door frames, paint or anything else, if your custom-made furniture cannot pass through and if we cannot access the property and room sufficiently it will be your responsibly to find a resolution for this.

The measurements of all custom-made furniture made will be as accurate as possible, but nevertheless may vary due to the handmade nature.

HANDLING AND MOVING FURNITURE

Our furniture can be heavy, so it’s best to be careful when handling and moving furniture. If you are moving furniture, please make sure to follow these three rules: legs bent, back straight, head up.

NATURAL FEATURES

As we primarily work with natural materials, you should expect there to be natural features, such as different textures in the slate and marble, knots, burr, cracks, splits, different patterns and shades in colours that shine through which differ from species to species. You can let us know in the confirmation process the finish you’re after, polished or a matt more natural finish, but please do be aware that these imperfections are what makes the wood unique. All measurements stated, such as width, length and table top thickness may vary by a couple of mm.

There may be cracks present in the wood we use to make your table, from the kiln drying process or the air-drying process. The larger the pieces of wood the more likely that cracks will be present. We can fill these cracks with a natural dark filler or colour resin, but as a general rule we leave we leave the cracks unfilled.

WOOD MOVEMENT & AFTERCARE

As natural materials get used to their new home there will be some movement which includes cracks and splits, or widening of existing cracks. This will take place over the first year and is nothing to worry about. This movement, shrinkage or cracking happens because most modern homes are dry with central heating, which leaves less moisture in the air. The warm air inside shrinks the wood and can cause cracks or other visible changes in your table.

We will always supply a detailed recommendation on how to care for your furniture and keep it looking beautiful, and we will keep in touch to make sure everything is at it should be in the first year.

Some people like to leave the cracks, as it tells us a story about their wood, others like to have them filled. We have an annual aftercare service so if you want to continue to care for your piece, then let us know. You can email us info@burrandknot.com to enquire about this service.

Returns

RETURNS FOR CUSTOM-MADE PRODUCTS

If your product has been tailored for you, i.e. your choice of timber, size, finish, personalisation and paint colour, or has been personally quoted for, then returns are not accepted.

RETURNS FOR FAULTY PRODUCTS

In most occasions, especially regarding our tables, we will deliver and install your purchase in person ensuring that it’s completed and fitted to the highest possible standard. We will conduct an inspection of your product together upon delivery and installation and sign off the table fit for purpose and the terms of care before leaving.

In the rare instance that you become aware of any faults after the installation and the table is not fit for purpose, please let us know and we will do our best to resolve any issues.

RETURNS FOR UNDAMAGED GOODS

If you wish to return an undamaged order, please let us know within 14 days of delivery. Please note the item must be in the same condition as sold and delivered and the cost to return is the consumer’s responsibility. Larger pieces, such as dining tables, will need to be picked up by the Burr & Knot team, to make sure the furniture is properly dismantled and cared for. This will incur an additional fee.

LIABILITY

Burr & Knot shall be under no liability in respect of any defect arising from fair wear and tear, wilful damage, negligence, abnormal working conditions, failure to follow our care instructions, misuse or alteration or repair of your furniture without our knowledge or guidance.
